BLISS MONTAGE was as delightful as the masala chai lager at @taleabeer plus, it really made you think. We had a lot to discuss with this book. Peking Duck was my favorite story, the prose leaping off the page confusing fiction with could-have-been memoir.

I enjoyed this so much more than SEVERANCE it came as a pleasant surprise. But my book club informed me if I had read SEVERANCE before the pandemic, instead of the middle of lockdown like I did (oops) I would have thought it was genius, and not incredibly, miserably depressing.

Ling Ma’s work to-date still won’t give you a happy ending. But it makes you consider the subtext in the prose, what’s hidden beneath the page. BLISS MONTAGE is a book of short stories I would read again. And as was confirmed in our discussions, there are so many ways you can interpret the stories within it, making it as much about perspective as it is about diction.

BIG MAGIC might be the only book I post about ever BIG MAGIC might be the only book I post about every year. 🪄💜

It’s one that I keep on my shelf in the writing book of my apartment, because it embodies my own philosophies when it comes to creativity and my writing process.

The book itself is for all creatives though. Whether you’re an artist, musician, writer… there’s something we can all take away from it, including the precious feeling of feeling seen when it comes to something so core to our being as creators, but abstract when it comes to the outside world.

Whether you’re just starting a project, finishing one, or experiencing a creative block - I urge you to pick up this book. It’s nonfiction, and while it’s by EAT PRAY LOVE author @elizabeth_gilbert_writer , it’s not that kind of memoir.

It’s the kind I return to again and again when I need a little push or validity in what drives me every day ✨
